A collection of old family photographs dating as far back as the first half of the 19th century.
Daniel Teichroeb (1835-1918) and Maria Abrams (1835-1891); the boy standing between them is an orphan who was living with them at the time.
It is likely that this photograph was taken in the village of Schoenhorst in the Mennonite settlement of Chortitza.
Johann Wolf (1778-1848), maternal grandfather of Daniel Teichroeb (1835-1918) and father of Anna Wolf (1806-1840). Anna was the mother of Daniel Teichroeb (1835-1918) and wife of Daniel Teichroeb (1789-1857). This picture was taken early in the first half of the 19th century, not long after photography became popularized.

Anna Teichroeb (18882-?) and her husband Gerhard Giesbrecht (1885-1933) with their children Agatha (1913-?), Maria (1915-?), Peter (1917-?), Anna (1919-?) and Margaretha (1922-?). Anna was a daughter of Peter Teichroeb (1857-1944) and Agatha Dueck (1859-1922). Anna and Gerhard owned the flour mill in the Mennonite settlement of Fuerstenland. In the aftermath of the Russian revolution, they lost the mill but were allowed to remain there as workers in the mill. Dan Teichroeb (1904-2005), the brother of Anna, would send care packages from Canada until word was received that Anna and Gerhard were dead. In fact, Gerhard died in 1933 leaving Anna widowed. In 1943 Anna was swept up in the German retreat from occupied territories in eastern Ukraine during which hundreds of thousands of German-speaking inhabitants were relocated. Anna was placed in Leszno, Poland. There is no information about her life after the war. |
